Bringing Fresh Foods to Our Community

July 20, 2015 |

As part of our wellness program initiatives, Mountain Park Health Center has established a “farm to you partnership” with Orchard Community Learning Center and the International Rescue Committee New Roots Program. The Orchard and IRC, along with other local farmers, support our efforts to provide fresh, naturally grown produce for Mountain Park employees, patients and the communities we serve.

The MPHC Farmers Markets are every held Monday from 8:00am to 12:00pm at the Baseline Clinic and every Tuesday from 8:00am to 12:00pm at the Maryvale Clinic.

In addition to being a working farm, the Orchard Community Learning Center advocates for wellness, education and a community based /supported food economy. The IRC New Roots Program assists refugee farmers in achieving food and economic security through sustainable agriculture. Many of our local farmers are also Mountain Park patients.

Produce can be purchased via check, cash, debit, credit, EBT benefit card and WIC vouchers. The Maricopa County Department of Public Health educators are often present to provide healthy recipes, which incorporate fruits and vegetables sold at the market.

We’ve also partnered with The Fresh Express, A mobile produce market bringing fresh, affordable fruits and vegetables and providing community health resources to Discovery Triangle residents. The Fresh Express offers very affordable produce outside our Gateway Clinic every other Wednesday from 2:30-3:30pm.

The Fresh Express accepts Cash, Credit and SNAP/EBT. You can find other locations on their Facebook page.

The MPHC Farmers Markets are open to the community and are located just outside the front doors of our clinics. All are welcome!

I work with the SNAP Ed program of Extension and I am trying to compile a list of local vendors. Who is the main contact person for the markets? Thanks.
