What is the Jesse Owens 5K Fun Run/Walk?
The Jesse Owens 5K Fun Run/Walk is a free community event hosted by Mountain Park Health Center celebrating the legacy of Jesse Owens—Olympic champion, trailblazer, and health advocate whose impact continues to inspire our community.
When is the event?
The 4th Annual Jesse Owens 5K will take place on Saturday, March 21.
What time do I need to arrive at the 5K?
Check‑in and the Community Resource Fair begin at 8:00 a.m., and all of our community partners will be set up by then. The 5K Fun Run/Walk starts at 9:00 a.m. We encourage you to arrive early to visit partner booths and get ready for a fun morning.
Can I register for the 5K on race morning?
Yes, same‑day registration will be available on race morning.
Where is the event located?
The event takes place at Mountain Park Health Center’s Jesse Owens Clinic at 325 E. Baseline Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85042.
Are there restrooms available?
Yes. The Jesse Owens Clinic will be open and seeing patients, and participants are welcome to use the restrooms inside. While you’re there, be sure to check out the Jesse Owens mural and display case.
How will I know where to park?
We’ve created a parking map for your convenience. You can find it at the top of this page.
Please remember that the clinic will be open and seeing patients, so be sure to park only in designated event parking areas.
How will I know where to go on race day?
Many of you have done this 5K before—welcome back! The course is a simple out‑and‑back route (map at the top of this page). You’ll see directional arrows along the way. There will be plenty of space but please be mindful of participants who may be headed the other way.
What can I expect for weather and comfort?
It is expected to be a warm morning. We will have cooling stations, water, and indoor, air‑conditioned space available for anyone who needs it. Participants are encouraged to bring a water bottle, and walkers are welcome to bring umbrellas for shade. We will also have shaved ice and paletas for you after you finish the route!
Is there water along the course?
Yes. There will be multiple water stations along the route, and cold water will be available before the start. A Mountain Park Health Center van will also be along the route if anyone needs a quick air‑conditioned cool down. Please help us keep the route beautiful by holding onto trash until you reach garbage and recycling bins.
What if I need first aid?
We will have a first aid tent at the start/finish line area. If something happens along the course, please find a volunteer and ask for assistance. If it’s an emergency, please call 911.
What should I do if I get separated from my child?
It’s always best to make a plan with your child ahead of time. If you do get separated, please find a volunteer who will direct you to our first aid and lost‑and‑found area.
Are volunteers welcome?
Yes! If you know someone who is interested in volunteering, please email us at engagement@mphc-az.org.
Who are the event sponsors?
We are grateful to our sponsors UnitedHealthcare, Banner University Family Care, and Concord General Contracting. Their generous support helps keep this community event free for everyone.
