Getting Support as a New Parent
Our WIC team offers one-on-one breastfeeding and nutrition support, so you never have to navigate it alone.
When nutrition feels complicated, it’s easy to feel unsure about what your family needs.
Our WIC team is hear to make sure you don’t have to figure it out alone

The Mountain Park Health Center WIC Program provides supplemental foods, health care referrals and nutrition education at no cost to low-income pregnant, breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to 5 years of age who are found to be at nutritional risk.
WIC supplemental foods have shown to provide wide ranging benefits. They include longer safer pregnancies with fewer premature births and infant deaths, improved dietary outcomes for infants and children, improved maternal health and improved performance at school. In addition to health benefits, WIC participants showed significant savings in healthcare costs when compared to non-participants.

Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program
Starting and continuing breastfeeding for the infant’s first year has proven very beneficial. Our WIC Program integrates education, encouragement and additional assistance with the support of our Breastfeeding Peer Counselors.
Peer counselors are mothers who have personal experience with breastfeeding and can provide basic breastfeeding information and support to other mothers with whom they share various characteristics, such as language, race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status.
Peer counselors reinforce breastfeeding recommendations in a socially and culturally appropriate context and promote breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the mother and baby. In WIC, peer counselors undergo training to provide mother-to-mother support in group settings and one-to-one counseling through telephone calls or visits in the home, clinic or hospital.
