Growing up I was in a few motor vehicle accidents that landed me in the hospital. The nurses were always so comforting and caring and that is when I decided I wanted to become a nurse. During my experience as a registered nurse, I realized I wanted to do more for my patients and decided to advance my career and pursue my doctorate degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner. As an immigrant myself, I have seen so many people suffer health complications that could have been prevented if there was more education and resources. I also saw disparities in health due to language barriers. Being a native Spanish speaker myself, I understand the importance of communication and want to use that skill to help others. After I learned Mountain Park’s mission and values, I knew this is where I wanted to be and saw it as a great opportunity to help my community.
I believe a person should be treated holistically. As healthcare providers we should not only treat a diagnosis, but also consider all the challenges and barriers surrounding our patients’ needs. I strongly believe in promoting health and preventing disease to have positive outcomes for those we serve.
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and my two dogs. I like being outdoors and traveling to new places. If I were not in healthcare, I think I would be an immigration lawyer or an activist.
