I am originally from San Jose, Costa Rica. I immigrated to the U.S when I was 10. I met my husband while serving as a U.S Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa, he too was a volunteer. When I was younger, I wanted to go to law school because it spoke to my desire to be an advocate for social justice.
My interest in nursing began after working as a health educator with some incredible registered nurses and nurse practitioners. They were committed to educating and empowering the patient to better health. This spoke to me.
I have always worked in community health and in women’s health. Returning to Mountain Park was like coming home. I worked at the Maryvale Clinic from 2007 to 2017.
In my free time, I love to hike, read, knit, and listen to podcasts. I have two dogs, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Butters and a mixed breed Golden Retriever named Noodles. My husband and I love to participate in Orienteering, which is like wandering in unfamiliar territory completing tasks.
