Growing up in the Bahamas, I was one of four girls and for as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to be a women’s healthcare provider. When I was just 11 years old, my mom got sick after giving birth and had to go to the hospital. We didn’t know it at the time but it was preeclampsia, high blood pressure that sometimes develops during pregnancy. It was really scary but it helped me decide I wanted to be a women’s advocate and educate them on how to take care of themselves.
I love the patients here at Mountain Park. It’s so diverse and that makes it a really great place to learn because we see so many different things here. Mountain Park’s integrated care model with behavioral health specialists and registered dietitians ensures all our patients receive quality care beyond medical health. I believe if we can empower our patients with information on how to best take care of themselves, that is the most impactful thing we can do for them.
Healthcare is a service and I try to treat my patients how I would like to be treated, how I would want my mom to be treated. If I wasn’t in healthcare I would be in some sort of other service, working for a nonprofit or a charity doing something for the community, like teaching.
When I’m not working I like to stay active. I’m very involved in my church and volunteering. I have a Blue Nose Pitbull, who I like to take hiking.
