When Personal Values Align with our Organization Values

January 22, 2020 |

At Mountain Park it is our mission to improve and sustain the health of the communities we serve through affordable primary care. But a passion for healthcare isn’t the only reason to work for our organization, just ask Delia Perez, electronic health records specialist. She said her decision to join the Mountain Park team had more to do with the organization itself than working in healthcare.

“My sister is a dental assistant lead at Baseline Dental. She was always telling me what a good organization Mountain Park is, so as soon as I saw an entry position, I applied.”

Delia started out as a customer service representative at our Gateway Clinic. She stayed in that position for a few years before transitioning to electronic health records at our Baseline Clinic where she has been for about two years and has even become a lead.

Delia said she is proud of her growth within the organization and her ability to help different departments.

When Delia is not at Mountain Park, she spends all of her time with her two kids.

Family is very important to Delia.

“Learning new workflows and training new staff is something that comes easy to me,” she said. Delia has even started helping with our medical assistant orientation and showing new MA’s how to add documents to patient charts.

“There are always things I can learn,” said Delia. “But I am confident in my abilities.”

Delia said the hardest part of her job can be dealing with patients who are upset.

“I’ve learned you never take things personally,” she said. “Doing that can lead to getting defensive and that doesn’t help anyone.”

Of course, helping our patients is Delia’s number one priority, but there is something else that makes Delia love her job, our staff!

“They aren’t just coworkers. They’re more like family,” Delia said. “We spend more than half our lives at work and it’s really great to work with people who are kind and understanding.”

Delia is also very close with her family outside of work. She is the second of six kids and has two of her own.

“We all get together every Sunday for lunch or dinner,” Delia said. “We always end up waiting a long time at restaurants because there are so many of us, but it’s worth it.”

Delia said the whole family takes two vacations together every year, but she spends most of her days off with her two kids.

“I can say I’m very proud of raising my kids by myself,” Delia said. “There have been times when I’ve yanked my hair out, but I still feel like I’m doing a good job.”

Delia’s biggest passion is teaching her kids that everyone is equal.

“No matter what they look like or what they do, we are all the same and everyone needs to be treated equally,” she said. “I want to instill good values in them like my parents did me and my siblings.”

Those same values align with Mountain Park’s and make Delia a great fit in our organization.

“We’re a great community here,” Delia said. “Not just for staff, but for our patients.”

Delia understands that we have a lot to offer and even the little things make a big difference.
