At Mountain Park Health Center, we are always working to build new and impactful relationships with community organizations and schools. One of our newest school partners is Pioneer Preparatory in the Maryvale area which serves children from pre-school to 6th grade. The partnership started when Stephanie Santiago, our West Valley community outreach specialist, met Pioneer Prep’s school nurse, Marsha Cordova, at an outreach event.
“Hearing Stephanie speak about Mountain Park, she really spoke from the heart,” said Marsha. “I knew Mountain Park and Pioneer Prep would be great partners and help bring healthcare to our students and families.”
Our partnership with Pioneer Prep started in the summer of 2021 with our back-to-school campaign where we were able to provide free or low-cost physicals to over 40 of the school’s students at our Maryvale Clinic.
In addition to eliminating barriers to healthcare for many students and their families, this partnership presented Marsha a new opportunity to support her community as a vaccine outreach specialist on the Mountain Park team.
Our Vaccine Outreach program started last summer and consists of a team of outreach specialists who go out into the community to canvass and raise awareness about the COVID-19 vaccine. Their goal is to educate the public and eliminate barriers to getting vaccinated by scheduling vaccine appointments at our clinics. Marsha first heard about this program during a meeting with Mountain Park and our community partners.
“I am very passionate about the Maryvale community and when I first heard about the Vaccine Outreach program, I knew I had to step up,” said Marsha. “I want to do my part to make our community safe again.”
Marsha still works full-time as the school nurse for Pioneer Preparatory and spends her free time helping get her community vaccinated against COVID-19. Together, Pioneer Prep and Mountain Park are eliminating barriers to quality, affordable healthcare for all.
Through our continued partnerships with community organizations, Mountain Park is putting service over self and helping build for today and tomorrow.
