In the United States alone, 29.1 million people live with diabetes and 8.1 million may be undiagnosed or unaware of their condition. Julius Collins Thomas, a Mountain Park patient, was one of those people.
Two years ago, blurred vision and frequent urination started to creep up on him and interrupt his daily life. He was referred to Mountain Park and started seeing one of our providers.
Julius, a man who knows what he wants, knew he did not want to be shuffled from doctor to specialist to nutritionist, to a laboratory, and wherever else.
“I remember saying, ‘Look doc, I’ve met a lot of doctors in my life and haven’t been fond of all of them because I felt that they just talk to you and then pass you onto someone else,’” he said. “I didn’t want to be shuffled from person to person.”
Mountain Park was the perfect place to accommodate his request. Not only did he see a number of physicians, he was able to see a nutritionist, have his blood work drawn and speak to a psychologist, all without leaving the exam room.
I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes that day,” he said. “I didn’t know what was going on with me, but I knew something was wrong.”
With the help from Mountain Park providers he was able to conquer the disease.
“I decreased my sugar intake drastically and started a daily walk/run exercise routine,” he said. After his 90-day follow-up visit, his doctor was speechless that his blood levels were back to normal.
“I’ve told many people that I’ve never been this happy going to a doctor,” Julius said.
He recalled that everyone was extremely helpful. They provided him with helpful resources, such as dietary guidelines and introduced him to the appropriate people.
“Everybody needs a clinic like this because this truly is the most impressive medical facility I’d ever seen,” he said.
