For more than 40 years, the Jesse Owens Clinic has served the South Phoenix Community. Named after the legendary record-breaking Olympic athlete Jesse Owens, this clinic has embodied the spirit of excellence and service that Owens himself demonstrated throughout his life. After his athletic and Olympic career, Owens became an advocate for education and health services and spent his later years in Phoenix. When the Jesse Owens Clinic was founded and named in his honor, it immediately impacted the lives of countless individuals seeking care.
The clinic served as an urgent care facility in South Phoenix for many years and functioned as a pediatric clinic until its closure just prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mountain Park acquired the facility soon after, and immediately put it to great use. It served as a critical hub during the pandemic, allowing a space for Mountain Park care teams to administer thousands of COVID-19 tests and vaccinations. The building has also served as a voter registration site and the focal point of our annual Jesse Owens 5K Fun Run/Walk.
This renovation is not merely about increasing the number of exam rooms; it’s about expanding the accessibility of high quality and affordable care in South Phoenix. We are dedicated to enhancing the patient experience from the lobby to the exam room and improving the work environment for our healthcare and administrative employees. Incorporating sliding doors will help simplify entry for patients with wheelchairs and families with strollers into our newly designed exam rooms. Additionally, the infusion of vibrant colors across the clinic will create an atmosphere that is both energizing and welcoming.
We look forward to sharing all the construction progress with you over the next several months. Our Jesse Owens Clinic is scheduled to open in 2025.
